I’ll start with a warning. This article will probably contain some spoilers. Specifically for LA Noire. I’ll do my best to keep them to a minimum, but no promises.

And it’s finished.
Am I happy with it? Sure, Sort of I guess. It’s not a fully finished game, but for something made in 48 hours – I guess it’s pretty alright. I’ll be uploading a timelapse video when I Can get around to it (Timelapse added below – enjoy) so you can see the process and progress.
So, my thoughts… Continue reading

So the theme was announced at midday today ( about 3 hours, 21 minutes ago ). Pretty exciting stuff really. It was “It’s Dangerous to go Alone! Take This!” ( It’s a meme from zelda … odd choice, but what the hey )
Figured it was about time for me to post info on my game idea. I’m taking a sideways route around the theme, but I think it still fits quite nicely.
Title : As yet undecided, I’m sure I’ll come up with something witty later though. Current working title is ‘Small Hands’
Concept : You are a thief, and you need the gold. However you don’t want to get pinched by the fuzz. So you start buying orphans from the local orphanage, and training them to be your little thieving monkeys. You send out the orphans in groups to steal as much as possible as they can and come back to you safe ( without being arrested ).
An orphan sent out by himself is likely to be caught by the police, thus diminishing your income. The idea is to plan accordingly so that you send out enough orphans that they can collect appropriate amounts of money, and then make it back safely.
So, the theme? Dangerous for the orphans to go alone. And they take your stuff. Clever little orphans.
Will I get it finished? Hopefully!
For those of you in “the know” you may have heard the name Ludum Dare passed around from time to time. Ludum Dare is a 48 hour game development event. I’ve considered taking part in the competition in the past, but I’ve never had a full weekend free. Well, the time has come, and this weekend days, I will be participating in Ludum Dare #20. Here is my commitment post and everything, it just shows you how totally serious I am and stuff.

So happy new year and all that jazz folks. Let’s talk about 2010 for a moment. 2010 was a pretty good year for gaming in general. I managed to play quite a few games that I enjoyed, and we finally had some movement on the R18 rating here in Australia. So what will 2011 bring? Let’s see shall we? Continue reading

Ah Metroid. You hold such a warm and fuzzy place in my heart. I don’t know what it is about your morphing balls, galaxy-dominating-opposable-thumb-lacking space pirates, and your endless upgrade scavenging I love so much. Your constantly excellent soundtracks bring chills to my spine, your ability to entirely change the game style yet still retain the same ‘feel’ is simply wonderful (ala Metroid Prime 2D platformer to 3D FPS). I figured a Metroid game would be a fitting first post for my new gaming-centric blog.
